This popular new hobby has been shown to (1) motivate individuals to be creative, (2) to learn about audio-video recording, (3) to troubleshoot and setup technology, and (4) to engage with others in common interests. Given this positive potential, it is crucial for all users to be aware of the consequences and implications of joining this streaming culture and to make positive conscious decisions on how to balance the real world with the cyber world.

Current research has provided evidence that engaging in online video streaming in social platforms can increase concerns over cyber bullying, one-sided relationships, fame obsession, excessive screen time usage, harassment and threats, sleep deprivation, emotional stress, mature content, and delivery of biased information. Several studies have proven that there is a negative relationship between young individuals and the ever-changing culture of live streaming for entertainment purposes. The live streaming world can be overwhelming for certain individuals and cause a reduction in real life social skills, loss of identity, severe anxiety, and the development of socio-psychological problems. Most users that join live streams exhibit a need to belong to a group and are searching for a sense of purpose and motivation through their social platform because it gives them a sense of comfort and security. However, what that represents is an escape from the real world into the cyber world. Some individuals have learned to balance both, but some have chosen to only live behind the bright screen.
